  • Ultra high molecular weight polyacrylamide for drilling fluid is a polymer specifically used in the field of petroleum drilling, usually referring to polyacrylamide with a molecular weight of over 15 million. It is polymerized from acrylamide monomer through free radical polymerization and other processes. According to its ionic properties, it can be divided into different types such as anionic, cationic, and nonionic to adapt to different drilling conditions and requirements.

    Physical and chemical properties

    Appearance: Generally white powder or granular, with good flowability in a dry state, odorless and tasteless, easy to store and transport.

    Solubility: It can slowly dissolve in water, forming a uniform, transparent, and highly viscous colloidal solution. The dissolution rate is influenced by various factors, such as water temperature, stirring speed, etc. It usually requires appropriate stirring and a certain dissolution time to fully dissolve.

    Viscosity characteristics: Its aqueous solution has a high viscosity, and the viscosity increases exponentially with increasing concentration. At low concentrations, the viscosity and shear force of drilling fluid can be significantly increased, effectively suspending and carrying drilling cuttings.

    Stability: It has good chemical stability and can maintain stable performance within a certain temperature and pH range. However, under extreme conditions such as high temperature and high shear, the molecular chain may break, leading to a decrease in performance.

    Application area 

    Mainly used in drilling operations for energy exploration and development such as oil and natural gas, including onshore drilling and offshore drilling.
