Synthesis and flocculation effect of organic flocculant DTCS-AM
May 27,2024
There are various types of coagulants in water treatment, and with the continuous changes in social requirements, the development of coagulants is moving towards economic practicality, green non toxicity, and energy efficiency.
The most abundant natural organic polymer in nature is cellulose, which has special adsorption properties, biocompatibility, biological activity, and degradability. Its modification and utilization are important directions for future development.
Using potato starch as raw material and epichlorohydrin (ECH) as crosslinking agent, dithiocarbamate modified starch was synthesized through a series of processes. Then, modified starch was grafted with acrylamide to obtain modified starch acrylamide graft copolymer, which was used for the treatment of chemical organic wastewater, and the effects of different pH, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the treatment effect of organic flocculant DTCS-AM were investigated.
The results showed that the flocculant prepared under the conditions of pH 7, reaction temperature 85 ℃, and reaction time 6h had the best treatment effect. Through comprehensive comparison with other coagulants, it was found that the functionalized starch flocculant obtained after modification treatment has advantages such as fast flocculation speed, low dosage, and less sludge production that conventional coagulants do not possess.
